Call for Submissions: We're Launching a Print Publication!
Looking for full draft submissions by 7/24. Learn more about what we're looking for in our post!
We’re excited to share that Bury Me in NJ is launching a new quarterly print publication, and we’re inviting our community to help shape its very first issue!
The Mourning Papers will reflect the spirit of South Jersey while exploring broader, universal themes: how we build community, how we care for one another, and how those practices can extend beyond where we live.
Grounded in our core pillars—Grief, Joy, Resistance, and NJ—the publication will include:
First-person narratives
Practical resources and community-focused information (e.g., how to start a garden, building mutual aid networks, spotlights on local orgs, and under-reported issues)
Poetry, art, and photography
Other work that speaks to the values we hold
While we aim to center voices from New Jersey, particularly South Jersey, we also welcome submissions from beyond the region—as long as they align with the themes and intentions of the publication.
We have a vision for what this can be, but more importantly, we want it to be shaped by you—our community. Whether you’re a writer, artist, organizer, or someone with something to say, we’d love to hear from you!
🗓️ Submission Deadline:
Full draft submissions are due by July 24, 2025
This allows time for review, editing, and layout ahead of our anticipated release around the autumn equinox (Sept. 22nd).
We gladly accept previously created work that fits our themes, in addition to any original pieces you may be inspired to create. Contributors will retain full rights to their work and receive two complimentary copies of the issue. While we’re not able to offer monetary compensation at this time (publication expenses are being covered out of pocket), we’re committed to supporting and amplifying the work of everyone who contributes by whatever means we can.
To submit or reach out with an idea, email us at hello@burymeinnj.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
